St. Lebow et Jj. Morrell, PRESSURE TREATMENT OF SITKA SPRUCE LUMBER WITH AMMONIACAL COPPER-ZINCARSENATE OR CHROMATED COPPER ARSENATE, Forest products journal, 43(10), 1993, pp. 41-44
Air-seasoned Sitka spruce was treated with ammoniacal copper zinc arse
nate (ACZA) or chromated copper arsenate (CCA) at 11 commercial plants
. Preservative retention and penetration were greater with ACZA treatm
ents. All but 2 of 14 charges treated with ACZA met the American Wood
Preservers' Association specifications for treatment of lumber in grou
nd contact. Despite incising, none of the CCA treatments reached the r
equired depth of penetration, and only 3 of 15 CCA charges achieved th
e desired chemical loading.
