HETEROCYCLIC MONOAZO DYES DERIVED FROM 4-OXOQUINAZOLINE .2.

Diazotised 2-(4'-chloro styryl)-6-amino-4-oxoquinazoline was coupled w ith various coupling components to give 4-oxo quinazoline based dyes. Dyes on diazotisation and treatment with sodium azide gave an azido dy e, whilst on reaction with thionyl chloride and sodium azide gave a su lphonazido dye. 2-(4'-Chloro styryl)-6-amino-4-oxoquinazoline was prep ared from a sequence of reactions starting from 3H-2-methyl-4-oxoquina zoline. The dyes were suitable, depending on the coupling component us ed, for application to silk, polymide and polyester. Dyeing and fastne ss properties of the dyes were evaluated
