Pj. Walke et al., BEHAVIOR OF A STEERED CATHODIC ARC AS A FUNCTION OF STEERING MAGNETIC-FIELD, Surface & coatings technology, 59(1-3), 1993, pp. 126-128
An electromagnetic system capable of steering the cathode spot of a va
cuum arc has been implemented. The radius of the arc track and the con
finement of the spot to the track are controllable by suitable choice
of coil currents. Measurements have been made which show the effect of
the applied field on the spot confinement and the results have been u
sed to test the predictions of a new model of arc motion.
