Abstract
Frequently, in nature, defective promoters can be resurrected by activ ator proteins in response to cellular demands. The activators bind to nearby DNA sites for action. Various protein-protein and DNA-protein c ontacts involving activators, RNA polymerase, and different segments o f DNA in and around a defective promoter form a DNA-multiprotein compl ex (cage) which enhances transcription.
