Some of the Chevrel phase compounds are reported to exhibit unusual ca
tionic mobilities, particularly those with transition metals. EPR evid
ence is presented for mobile Cu2+ ions in Cu2+-doped HgMo6S8. Evidence
is also obtained for the existence of Hg+ ions, giving possible suppo
rt for the model correlating the site change with the reaction A(2+) e(-) <----> A(+) during ionic conductivity.
