Na. Lavrov et al., COPOLYMERIZATION OF N-VINYLSUCCINIMIDE WITH VINYL-ACETATE IN WATER, Journal of applied chemistry of the USSR, 65(9), 1992, pp. 1730-1733
A study has been made of the copolymerization of N-vinylsuccinimide wi
th vinyl acetate in an aqueous medium at 20-40-degrees-C, with an init
iator system consisting of ammonium persulfate and sodium sulfite. Fac
tors influencing the copolymer yield and composition have been investi
gated: monomer mixture composition, ratio of components of the initiat
or system, temperature, and sequence of charging the components of the
reaction mixture. Calculated data on the microstructure of the copoly
mers are compared with results obtained by PMR spectroscopy. It has be
en shown by means of turbidimetric titration that there is no homopoly
mer of N-vinyl-succinimide in the copolymers. The heat resistance of t
he copolymer products increases as their content of N-vinylsuccinimide
units increases.
