Abstract
The pH of fiber suspension prior to sheet fermentation has a significa nt influence on the brightness of Norway spruce TMP. The maximum brigh tness for unbleached samples was around pH 3-4, while it occurred as a plateau over the pH-range 5-8 in the case of bleached samples. The pH -dependent discoloration was higher in alkaline than in acidic regions .
