A technique for the pulse-shape discrimination of light pulses in NaI(
Tl) and CsI(TI) is proposed and has been experimentally tested. The te
chnique is based on comparing the total amount of Light collected duri
ng the first 0.5 mu s and the following 10 mu m. Simultaneous detectio
n of the signals from NaI(Tl) and CsI(Tl) crystals with the same photo
multiplier makes it possible to identify with confidence the events in
NaI(TI) with energies higher than 5 keV and in CsI(Tl) with energies
ranging from 15 keV to 3 MeV.
