The excess molar volumes V(m)E and refractive indices n(D) of cis-9-oc
tadecenoic (oleic) acid + a n-alkane (C-7-C-12) or + an alkan-1-ol (C6
-C-12) have been determined at 298.15 K for all mixtures. The excess v
olumes are negative over the whole composition range. A linear depende
nce between V(m)E at the minimum and the number of carbon atoms, N(C),
and between V(m)E(x=0.5) and the volume fraction, phi1, of the second
component is found. Molar refractions have been derived from refracti
ve indices and densities using the Lorenz-Lorentz equation.
