Zr. Lian et al., ELECTRON-TRANSFER FROM TRIPLET THYMINE AND THYMIDINE TO LIPOIC ACID, Journal of photochemistry and photobiology.B, Biology, 20(2-3), 1993, pp. 113-116
Electron transfer from the triplet excited state of thymine or thymidi
ne to the disulphide compound lipoic acid (RSSR) was studied using KrF
laser flash photolysis (248 nm, 20 ns). The electron transfer reactio
n rate constants, measured at 310 nm, were determined to be 1.3 X 10(1
0) M-1 s-1 and 6.9 X 10(9) M-1 s-1 for thymine and thymidine respectiv
ely. The transient absorbance at 400 nm in the presence of the quenche
r is attributed to the anion radical of lipoic acid.
