Absolute differential cross sections dsigma(H)/dOMEGA and dsigma(D)/dO
MEGA for elastic recoil of H and D using 1 to 2.5 MeV He-4 ions have b
een measured at 10-degrees, 20-degrees and 30-degrees laboratory scatt
ering angles, with accuracies of +/-4 to 7% for dsigma(D)/dOMEGA, and
+/-6 to 9.5% for dsigma(H)/dOMEGA, depending on the geometry; their ra
tios (dsigma(H)/dOMEGA)/(dsigma(D)/dOMEGA) have been measured to +/-2%
in the same energy range and geometries. Cross sections for several n
uclear reactions of interest in materials science have also been measu
red. at scattering angle theta(lab) = 150-degrees. That of C-12(d,p)C-
13 at 968 keV is dsigma(C)/dOMEGA = 29.5+/-1.2 mb/sr; that of D(d,p)T
in the same conditions is 8.6+/-0.5 mb/sr; that of O-16(d,p1)O-17 at 8
57 keV is dsigma(O)/dOMEGA = 5.3+/-0.4 mb/sr. The latter value was ded
uced from a measurement of the ratio R(C/O) = (dsigma(C)/dOMEGA)968 ke
V/(dsigma(O)/dOMEGA)857 keV = 5.56+/-5%.
