Abstract
The first chemical study of a pleurobranchoidean opisthobranch is repo rted. Three new polypropionates (membrenone A, B and C) have been char acterized from the marine gastropod Pleurobranchus membranaceus. Their anatomical localization in the skin of the mollusc suggests a potenti al defensive role against predators.
