Tk. Starn et al., GAS-SAMPLING GLOW-DISCHARGE FOR OPTICAL-EMISSION SPECTROMETRY .1. DESIGN AND OPERATING CHARACTERISTICS, Applied spectroscopy, 47(10), 1993, pp. 1555-1561
A spectrochemical source for optical emission spectrometry, based on a
n atmospheric-sampling glow discharge, is described. Operating paramet
ers that affect the performance of the glow discharge are investigated
; the most important is the source pressure. Helium and argon are stud
ied as plasma support gases. Simple to build and operate, the glow dis
charge is fairly robust to introduced organic vapors and produces equi
valent signals from carbon-containing species regardless of the origin
al molecular form of the carbon.
