Fourteen amino heterocycles were allowed to react in the different exp
erimental conditions of formation of Troger's bases. Amino-azoles and
-benzazoles yielded the corresponding Troger's bases while amino-azine
s and -benzazines failed to react The exception was 6-aminoquinoline w
hich yielded the corresponding Troger's base. When there are two posit
ions of cyclisation the reaction is always regioselective. Troger's ba
se analogues with pentagonal aromatic frameworks, 6b and 7b, have been
synthesized for the first time and the X-ray molecular structure of 7
