Abstract
Both instars of the relatively generalized histerid Onthophilus nodatu s J. E. LeConte, are described and illustrated. This is the first larv al description for the genus Onthophilus and is the first study of cha etotaxy of histerid larvae. Setae of the thorax and abdomen are serial ly homologized to develop a setal nomenclature for the first instar. T his system is easily applied to other histerid genera.
