This is the second of two articles that develops and evaluates a funda
mentally based detachment model. In this article, the proposed model i
s evaluated by the predictive accuracy of observed incipient motion an
d rill erosion data. Observed incipient motion of noncohesive particle
s was used to assess the general framework of the proposed approach be
cause the parameters could be estimated without calibration. A simple
two-dimensional representation of particles is used to estimate erodib
ility characteristics. The model accurately represented observed incip
ient motion values. The model was evaluated for cohesive particles usi
ng 373 rill erosion data sets of detachment and shear values. Here the
parameters of the model were lumped into two parameters to allow comp
arison with the widely-used excess shear detachment approach. The prop
osed model was shown to fit the observed data better than the excess s
hear model.
