Ec. Azevedo et al., BACITRACIN PRODUCTION BY A NEW STRAIN OF BACILLUS-SUBTILIS - EXTRACTION, PURIFICATION, AND CHARACTERIZATION, Applied biochemistry and biotechnology, 42(1), 1993, pp. 1-9
A new strain of Bacillus subtilis C 126 was isolated from sugar cane f
ermentation and produced an antibiotic that inhibited the growth of Mi
crococcus flavus. The production of the antibiotic in culture medium f
ollowed to extraction with n-butanol, thin layer chromatography, and m
icrobiological tests indicated that a polypeptide antibiotic was produ
ced. The fraction obtained by Sephadex G-25 column and analyzed by HPL
C indicated that bacitracin complex was produced.
