SIMPLE AND CONDENSED BETA-LACTAMS .15. ON THE ANOMALOUS COURSE OF THESHEEHAN-BOSE SYNTHESIS WITH 5-AMINO-TETRAZOLE - A NOVEL SYNTHESIS OF THE 4,5,6,7-TETRAHYDROTETRAZOLO[1,5-A]PYRIMIDINE RING-SYSTEM

Successive reaction of 5-aminotetrazole with diethyl bromomalonate and chloroacetyl chloride, followed by dehydrochlorinative cyclization af fords the tetrahydrotetrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine derivative 3 rather tha n the beta-lactam 6. The reaction is the first example of a new tetraz olo[1,5-a]pyrimidine synthesis.
