N. Fjortoft et al., EVALUATION OF A SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION PROGRAM AT A COLLEGE OF PHARMACY, American journal of pharmaceutical education, 57(3), 1993, pp. 247-251
The purpose of this study was to evaluate, in terms of improved final
grades, the effectiveness of the supplemental instruction program at t
he University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy. Supplemental
Instruction, a learning enhancement program, is described. It was imp
lemented for a required first year pharmacy course (N=136). Attendance
was kept at each supplemental instruction session. Multiple regressio
n was the analytic method used to describe the relationship between th
e number of supplemental sessions attended, pertinent personal charact
eristics and final grade. Regular SI attendance was found to be signif
icantly and positively related to final course courses for minority st
udents. Implications for teaching are discussed.
