Electromagnetic scattering from an inhomogeneous medium with a one-dim
ensional rough interface is analysed. The proposed procedure combines
the finite element method (FEM), to model the electromagnetic field in
the inhomogeneous region, with a perturbative technique to account fo
r the contributions due to the rough interface. Backscattering and bis
tatic scattering coefficients are computed and plotted for both plane
wave and Gaussian beam incident fields in the case of TM(z) polarizati
on.
