A. Otani, CROSS-VALIDATION OF THE HYPNOTIC INDUCTION PROFILE FACTOR STRUCTURE -SIMULTANEOUS CONFIRMATORY FACTOR-ANALYSIS OF 2 PUBLISHED SAMPLES, The American journal of clinical hypnosis, 36(2), 1993, pp. 91-97
This study cross-validated factor structure and psychometric character
istics of the Hypnotic Induction Profile (HIP). Earlier studies identi
fied two constructs of the HIP, but their methodology did not allow em
pirical confirmation of the number of factors. I have used a new metho
dology, confirmatory factor analysis, and submitted the data from the
previous studies to a simultaneous, multisample, factor analysis. The
results showed that the HIP indeed consists of two factors. Although t
he HIP two-factor model is statistically adequate, 7 of the 10 scales
have very low item reliability. Issues of measurement error and clinic
al implications of the study are also discussed in relation to the cur
rent findings.
