Abstract
Metal-halogen exchange of N-protected 4-iodoimidazoles 4 and 5 in CH2C l2 solution with EtMgBr generates the corresponding imidazol-4-yl anio ns. These were reacted either directly, or after modification by addit ion of other metal salts, with a variety of electrophiles to yield 4-s ubstituted imidazoles 6-15 in 53-97% yield.
