Abstract
Amplified multiwavelength lightwave networks are prone to substantial saturation-induced crosstalk when a channel is turned on or rerouted, perturbing amplifier gains at other wavelengths. Such crosstalk is str ongly suppressed in-cascades of cooled, inhomogeneously broadened fibe r amplifiers.
