Abstract
The paper analyses the relationship between human development, peace a nd human rights in seven countries of South Asia. Human development is measured by the UNDP Human Development Index and human expenditure ra tio- Peace is identified by extent of militarism and official violence against the public. Human freedom is defined by ratification of human rights instruments, political rights and civil liberties. Country pro files and patterns of development reveal somewhat uneven patterns of h uman development, peace and human rights in the region.
