Unsymmetrical and symmetrical calix[4]arene esters carrying oligosilox
ane moiety were designed for neutral carriers of silicone-rubber-membr
ane sodium ion-sensitive field-effect transistors (ISFETs). The incorp
oration of oligosiloxane moiety to calix[4]arene ionophores promotes t
heir dispersibility in silicone rubber, thus bringing about high stabi
lity and low impedance of the ion-sensing membranes and thereby high s
ensitivity and fast response of the resulting sodium ISFETs.
