Silenes of the family (Me3Si)2Si=C(OSiMe3)R (R = Ad, t-Bu, Mes) genera
lly react with the simple aroylsilanes R'3SiCOAr (R' = Ph, Me; Ar = Ph
, C6H4-X-P) in a [2 + 4] manner to give relatively stable bicyclic add
ucts. Only the [2 + 2] adduct was formed when R = Mes, R' = Me3Si, and
Ar = Ph. The H-1, C-13, and Si-29 NMR spectral data for a series of s
imple acylsilanes Ph3SiCOC6H4X-p and Me3SiCOPh are given.
