Abstract
Buried channel waveguides with strip widths of between 2 and 5 mu m ha ve been fabricated in K+ -Na+-exchanged BK7 glass. We have investigate d the effect of burying using the coupling strength to a bulk overlay. Results indicate a decrease in coupling with burying time. Wavelength notch filters based on the evanescent coupling between such guides an d multimoded overlays are reported. Notch widths of between 11 and 34 mn have been observed.
