Ao. Tomas et al., INFLUENCE OF ETHYLENE AND ETHEPHON ON THE SESQUITERPENE NOOTKATONE PRODUCTION IN CITRUS-PARADISI, Journal of agricultural and food chemistry, 41(10), 1993, pp. 1566-1569
The effect of ethylene and ethephon treatments on nootkatone accumulat
ion in the rind of grapefruit was investigated. Considerable increases
in the levels of this sesquiterpene were observed in the picked and u
npicked grapefruits treated. The changes induced in the maturation-sen
escence stage of grapefruit by these treatments consisted of an accele
rated carotenogenesis process in the rind, along with morphological ch
anges in the exocarp and ultrastructural changes in the plastids. Thes
e results suggest that ethylene regulates nootkatone biosynthesis by a
ccelerating the maturation-senescence processes in grapefruit rind,
