A. Lojek et al., EFFECTS OF NORDIHYDROGUAIARETIC ACID ON THE CHEMILUMINESCENCE OF MURINE PHAGOCYTES, General physiology and biophysics, 12(4), 1993, pp. 349-355
Antioxidative effects of nordihydroguaiaretic acid (NDGA) on murine bo
ne marrow phagocytes were studied using luminol- and lucigenin-amplifi
ed chemiluminescence (CL). NDGA applied in vitro strongly suppressed t
he opsonized zymosan particles stimulated CL response in a dose-depend
ent manner (in concentrations of 0.3-30 mug NDGA/ml), thus confirming
its antioxidant activity. However, no effects were observed in mice an
d their serum samples when investigated one minute to one hour after a
n i.p. administration of NDGA. These differences suggest that NDGA may
undergo a rapid metabolism in vivo.
