Abstract
The authors have been analyzed the results of their investigations obt ained on the etiology of external otitis (OE). During the complex micr obiological investigation of 273 ear discharges originated from the af fected dogs, Malassezia pachydermatis yeast was isolated most frequent ly, in 44.6% of the cases in pure cultures while in 31.2% associated w ith bacteria (Table). Staphylococcus aureus was the most frequently is olated bacterium from the samples, in 11.7% in pure cultures while in 23.8% of cases associated with M. pachydermatis. Considering the frequ ency of isolation, Pseudomonas aeruginosa was on the third place (8.8% ) while the frequency of other microorganisms was less than 2%. Accord ing to the authors' opinion, the less efficient treatments in the prac tice was connected with the unknown etiology of OE, the lack of labora tory investigations before treatments, as well as with the lack of ant imycotic effect in the available preparations. For this reason the tea m - based on the results of their etiological investigations - has dev eloped a new preparation with a specific composition for the treatment of OE by the name of Otex ear drops. Principles followed during the s election of effective agents of the preparation have been summarized t ogether with the results of laboratory and field trials obtained on cl inical patients. Otex ear drops contain 100 mg of ketoconasole, 50 mg of gentamycin-sulphate and 50 mg of masipredone hydrochlorid in 10 ml solution. 180 dogs with OE were treated by the preparation, the recove ry was 97.7%.
