Flow birefrigence and intrinsic viscosity of carboxymethyl cellulose i
n cadoxene solutions with different water, alkali, and NaCl content we
re studied. It was found that the constitution and nature of the solve
nt used significantly affect the conformational characteristics of mol
ecules of substituted cellulose. Variations in the ionic strength of t
he solvent (or in the cadmium content in the mixed solvent) change the
optical anisotropy of macromolecules and the extent of their equilibr
ium rigidity.
