The mechanical properties of flat crystals composed of smooth solid el
lipses were analyzed. The crystals with an ideal structure were shown
to be anisotropic and, depending on direction, shape (eccentricity), a
nd mutual arrangement of the particles, they can act either as a liqui
d or as a solid body. The yield point tau of a system composed of smoo
th solid particles of an arbitrary shape is proportional to the extern
al pressure and the ratio between the volume epsilon(V) and shear epsi
lon(tau) deformations (tau = pdepsilon(V)/depsilon(tau)). The yield po
int is shown to vary from zero (liquid) to approximately 0.5 p or even
higher (solid body).
