Abstract
A group of 28 patients was treated to compare the effects on akathisia of the following: propranolol (80 mg/day), benztropine (6 mg/day), or placebo. Both propranolol and benztropine significantly improved akat hisia by Day 3-5 of treatment. Placebo had no significant effects on a kathisia. Three patients developed confusion or forgetfulness by Day 3 of benztropine treatment: these effects cleared upon discontinuation of benztropine.
