Abstract
Dichloromethane extract of the fresh roots of Xylopia africana (Annona ceae) gives four compounds: dichamanetin (1), diuvaretin (2), 3'' '-(6 '' ''-hydroxybenzyl)diuvaretin (3) and 5'' '-(6'' ''-hydroxybenzyl)diu varetin (4). Compounds 3 and 4 arc reported for the first time from a natural source while compounds 1 and 2 are reported for the first time from Xylopia africana.
