Abstract
Biological activities of human interferon (IFN) omega are less well ch aracterized than those of other type I human IFNs. We compared the abi lity of recombinant IFN-omega, IFN-alpha 2 and IFN-gamma to inhibit th e production of viral hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) in the human hepatoma cell line PLC/PRF/5. The results demonstrated that the capac ity of IFN-omega to suppress the HBsAg synthesis was similar to that o f IFN-alpha 2. The kinetics of the inhibitory effect of IFN-gamma diff ered from those of the two other IFNs.
