To. Halawani et al., AIR-POLLUTION IMPACT ON ANOMALOUS PROPAGATION AND RADAR COVERAGE, Arabian journal for science and engineering, 18(2), 1993, pp. 143-156
Due to the burning of Kuwaiti oil wells, thousands of tons of smoke ha
ve been added to the atmosphere. In this paper, the possible impacts o
f this catastrophe on the atmospheric conditions are studied, specific
ally meteorological parameters. These vital parameters are used to stu
dy and estimate the Planetary Boundary Layer (PBL) height, Anomalous P
ropagation (AP) phenomena and their impact on the radar coverage. In g
eneral, a substantial decline in PBL height is noticed. Furthermore, a
nomalous propagation phenomena due to these changes are analyzed at th
e surface as well as in the elevated form. Demonstration of the radar
performance accounting the above changes are exhibited using electroma
gnetic parabolic equation (EMPE) model.
