Abstract
This paper discusses the source of combustion noise in an indirect inj ection diesel engine, and how it can be reduced through the use of hea ted inlet air. Data are also presented that show the relation between ignition delay and sound lever. Correlations for ignition delay are di scussed, and results are presented that show a slight modification to the Watson correlation.
