Abstract
The total length of the genome of the goat-pox virus ((GPV) generated by 5 hexacutter restriction enzymes (Pst I, Bam HI, Bgl II, Aval and H ind III) varied from 141 (kbp) to 146 (kbp). The stability of this str ain as shown by the identical DNA digest pattern with other strains is of interest as it strengthens the value of this technique in epidemio logical investigations of outbreaks of capripox. Genomic relatedness e xists between sheep-pox and goat-pox viruses. Vast dissimilarity exist s between capripox and orthopox genomes.
