E. Ranieri et al., NONPALPABLE BREAST-LESIONS - DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES AND HISTOLOGIC-FINDINGS IN 338 CASES, Journal of experimental & clinical cancer research, 15(4), 1996, pp. 411-414
We report data relative to 338 breast nonpalpable lesions, submitted t
o histologic examination on the basis of the integration of radiologic
al and cytologic exams. Out of 186 lesions excised on an inpatient bas
is under general anesthesia, 164 were ductal invasive carcinomas, 16 d
uctal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), and 6 benign lesions. One hundred and
fifty-two lesions had been excised on an outpatient basis, under local
anesthesia, with the findings of 142 benign lesions, 7 DCIS, and 3 in
vasive ductal carcinomas. An adequate integration of diagnostic proced
ures would have the aim of minimizing the number of benign lesions sub
mitted to frequent radiological exams, and of detecting ''histological
benign'' breast lesions with biologic instability.
