F. Cairoli et al., EFFICACY OF OXYTETRACYCLINE AND TETRACYCLINE-BENZYDAMINE IN THE PREVENTION OF INFECTION AFTER PLACENTAL RETENTION IN CATTLE, Veterinary record, 133(16), 1993, pp. 394-395
The efficacy of intrauterine oxytetracycline and a combination of benz
ydamine and tetracycline in preventing uterine infections in 150 Itali
an Friesian cows with retained placentas were compared. The animals we
re divided into three equal groups. Sixteen per cent of the oxytetracy
cline treated group, 12 per cent of the benzydamine-tetracycline-treat
ed group and 76 per cent of the untreated group developed endometritis
. The difference between the two treatment groups was not significant
but both treatments were effective in preventing septic complications
in cows with retained placentas.
