Prevention of Staphylococcus aureus mastitis is the optimum way to con trol this form of udder infection in dairy cows; however, some new inf ections inevitably occur, and antibiotics continue to be used in the c ontrol of this disease. Reasons for treatment failures are presented, and the use of treatment techniques and antibiotics to improve therape utic success are discussed.
