The CrO43- radicals produced by gamma-irradiation in LiNH4SO4 and LiKS
O4 crystals exhibit hyperfine splittings due to two magnetically inequ
ivalent protons. This is in contrast to the magnetic equivalence of th
e proton hyperfine splittings observed for the NH3+ radicals simultane
ously produced in these same host lattices. The proton hyperfine split
tings of the CrO43- radicals also exhibit much more significant anisot
ropies than those exhibited by the protons of the NH3+ radicals. These
imply a slowing-down of dynamics of the ammonium protons adjacent to
the CrO43- radical.
