Abstract
We investigate numerically the stabilization of Rydberg states of atom ic hydrogen in superintense laser light. No stabilization could be obs erved at frequencies comparable with the Rydberg energies. We show tha t the stabilization observed at higher frequencies is governed by the spreading and decrease of the coupling potentials at high intensities rather than by a reduction of the wave-function amplitude in the inter action region.
