The monometallic complexes [M(napoxlhH2)(H2O)2]n . 2nH2O [where M = UO
22+ and Zn2+, and napoxlhH4 = bis(o-hydroxynaphthalde)oxaloyldihydrazo
ne] have been synthesized and characterized on the basis of the result
s obtained from molar conductance data, electronic, IR and H-1 NMR spe
ctral studies. It is proposed that the complex [UO2 (napoxlhH2)(H2O)2]
n.2nH2O involves eight coordinated uraniums with six ligand atoms arra
nged in the equatorial plane perpendicular to the linear uranyl group
involving dihydrazone in the enolic form with cis configuration, where
as [Zn(napoxlhH2)(H2O)2]n.2nH2O is octahedral involving enolic dihydra
zone in the staggered configuration. The phenolic-OH groups remain unc
oordinated.
