Abstract
In-115 NMR studies are reported for InX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) solutions in hexamethylphosphoramide (HMPA). The resonances of InX4- anions are obs erved for tribromide and triiodide solutions. Mixed InBr4-nIn- anions may be obtained for the mixtures of InI3 and InBr3. A trigonal-bipyram idal complex, InCl3(HMPA)2, is formed from InCl3-HMPA solutions. Diiod otetrakis(hexamethylphosphoramide)indium(III) iodide has been prepared from an InI3-HMPA system and fully characterized by elemental analysi s, IR and NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. The cation is tr ans-octahedral. F-19 NMR spectra of In(NO3)3-F--HMPA systems demonstra te the formation of six-coordinate coordinate mixed InFn(HMPA)m(H2O)6- n-m3-n species.
