Abstract
Two cases are described of anterior dislocation of the proximal interp halangeal joint which could not be reduced because of interposition of the central slip of the extensor mechanism. In common with previously reported cases the injuries were sustained in a spin drier. The liter ature on anterior dislocation of the proximal interphalangeal joint is reviewed. Three distinct patterns of dislocation are recognised and t heir management is discussed.
