Ht. Koch et al., TRANSMISSION OF THEILERIA-PARVA-BOVIS BY NYMPHS OF RHIPICEPHALUS-APPENDICULATUS, Preventive veterinary medicine, 17(1-2), 1993, pp. 89-93
Theileria parva bovis (a protozoan causing January disease of cattle i
n Zimbabwe) was transmitted experimentally by nymphs of the tick Rhipi
cephalus appendiculatus to six of 14 cattle. Animals either became ser
iously ill or did not become infected. Attempts to induce mild or inap
parent infection by reducing the number of infecting nymphs were not s
uccessful. In the epidemiology of January disease nymphal transmission
is, however, apparently of little importance, notwithstanding the exp
erimental results.
