H. Mittelviefhaus et J. Wiek, A REFINED TECHNIQUE OF TRANSSCLERAL SUTURE FIXATION OF POSTERIOR CHAMBER LENSES DEVELOPED FOR CASES OF COMPLICATED CATARACT-SURGERY WITH VITREOUS LOSS, Ophthalmic surgery, 24(10), 1993, pp. 698-701
Described is a new technique of transscleral suture fixation of poster
ior chamber intraocular lenses (PC-IOLs) designed to simplify the proc
edure in cases of complicated cataract surgery with vitreous loss. Sli
ng-sutures are hooked to both haptics of the PC-IOL and the transscler
al sutures are buried in scleral tissue without scleral flaps. This sc
leral-slit technique, which has been successfully used in 20 patients,
provides a useful alternative, even in destabilized eyes, to techniqu
es that require preparation of scleral flaps.
