Abstract
Stocks of Atlantic salmon from Northern Europe that were among those i ntroduced to Asturian rivers over the past 15 years, were characterize d by allele frequencies at five polymorphic protein-coding loci. A com parison with comparable data from natural Asturian populations indicat ed a negligible contribution of the introduced fish to fisheries and n atural reproduction in Asturian rivers. A hatchery program based on lo cal populations was recommended.
