Abstract
A phytosociological and synecological analysis of the vegetation of th e midslopes of the Heilbron-Lindley-Warden-Villiers area, northern Ora nge Free State, South Africa, is presented. Releves were compiled in 6 3 stratified random sample plots. A TWINSPAN classification, refined b y Braun-Blanquet procedures, revealed eight plant communities. All com munities could be related to specific environmental conditions. A hier archical classification and phytosociological description of the plant communities are presented.
